PebblePad logo

Pebblepad: An e'portfolio or electronic resume where you can ad text, photos, videos - even competition results, links to websites etc as a record of your achievements. This is a way of keeping track of all your infomation that may be useful when you want to produce evidence of your past experience -say for applying for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning - for qualifications you already have) or RCC (Recognition of Current Competency where you don't have formal qualifications but do have plenty of life experience). You may need this as part of your proof of competition experience for NCAS or NOAS (National Officiating Accreditation Scheme) applications. Jodie and Daniel are currently trialling this software.

Survey Monkey logo

Survey monkey: Is an online survey generator. You can use this to survey your students to see what they really want from you as a coach. You can even use it to generate quizzes. The free version provides lots of great features but you can also pay a small fee for more options. We sent out a survey to all of our elearning participants before we started our project & received 100% response so it must be pretty easy to use!

Elluminate
Elluminate Experience - An online lecture.
By the end of my “Elluminate” session I felt as though I would be able to do any course I wanted from my home. If anyone has been to the same conferences or meetings as I, they will know that I prefer to be an active participant. Attached (further down on this page under attachments) is my account of the session which was surprisingly just like being in a real lecture. The main benefits – I saved on time and fuel not having to get to the lecture and then get lost finding the right room, and I can revisit the lecture whenever I want to pick up on those bits I missed. Which to me is carbon efficient and a good use of recycling, and ultimately more time in my day to spend with the horse. This would be a great tool for our discipline to have access to for our coaches and administrators to save thousands on airfares and accommodation and actually “get together” more and achieve more for our sport. I encourage you to have a look at http://www.elluminate.com especially if you don’t have the time to.

The International Society for Equitation Science is a not-for-profit organisation with the primary function of facilitating research into the training and welfare of horses. The idea of founding a Society devoted to equitation science had first been raised during discussions following the Havemeyer Foundation Workshop on Horse Behavior and Welfare in Iceland in 2002. Since then, equitation science has developed rapidly. The discipline combines learning theory, psychology and ethology in order to objectively examine the efficiency of different training methods. For more information and access to the veterinary papers as well as applications for membership to the International Society for Equitation Science go to www.equitationscience.com Attached below is a sample of the 2005 Conference Paper, outlining a glossary of equitation terms. Additional past conference papers can be downloaded from the site.

vaultingcoach Skype Prime 0 Oct 25 2008, 2:21 AM EDT by vaultingcoach

Christine and I managed to test drive Skype Prime last week. Christine was able to contact me via Skype Prime and we were able to negotiate a rate for my services. After much haggling I got her up to 19cents per minute, and I believe she was very impressed with her valuable 1 minute session. Unfortuantely when it came time for me to accept her charge rate, Skype Prime declared that I didn't have enough credit to cover the charges. I am led to believe that I will receive my 19cents within the next 4 months, less fees of course.
We did have difficulty identifying the uses for Skype Prime within the equestrian world. Certainly there would need to be a change in people's perception of access to their coaches and their availability. There would be an avenue to develop this sort of pay for time fee when doing long distance assessments or when revieving video footage for clients.

It is also another avenue for Coaches to promote their business by having a profile in Skype Prime, especially as more people are becoming users of the Skype network. Setting up of the business profile was fairly easy, by just clicking on the Skype Find icon and then adding a business. Even better that it is free to set up.

Approaching your local paper with a story on yoiur recent achievements or plans for competition can be an excellent way to promote your business for free! Local papers especially want stories about locals. here's one I found on vaulting: http://nowra.yourguide.com.au/news/local/news/general/horse-play-is-second-nature-for-thyme/1328524.aspx?src=rss
I found this story using an automated information search called WotNews. This is a service that sends you news items according to your search tags. It's a great way to see what's being reported. i'll put a link to wotnews in the link section above.

vaultingcoach Google Maps - Business Listing 2 Oct 1 2008, 9:14 PM EDT by vaultingcoach

About 4 weeks ago I added Sydney Vaulting Groups to Google Maps Business Listings, and in the last week I have had 3 phone calls. Unfortunately they were all for people wanting to know where they could just hire horses in the area for the purpose of trail riding, so not specifically useful for me. But certainly very interesting that people use this for searching for equestrian related businesses in our area.
